Its not hard to make space for armor on a build that's already centered around a ugs.. And I'm really unsure why you'd use such a terrible ultra at that ridiculously high of an SL either. Unless Hollow brings the Greatsword above 721 AR, which it might. AGS lets me build around casting more w/ a back up weapon, which is why it gets my praise. I don't remember off the top of my head, but I believe the Lothric Knight Sword is better for quality builds. Another thing that I often see talk about is how it has the "strongest moveset in the UGS class." That is not insignificant. It is possible to grab the sword without waking up the Dragon by approaching it slowly from the side of the New Londo shortcut. The damage will still be higher overall unless your opponent has insanely high resistances, especially once you take bundles into account. Keep in mind that this will be purely about the gameplay of a weapon, fashion and fun are personal and subjective. © 2020 GAMESPOT, A RED VENTURES COMPANY. Often, even against a completely stationary enemy who is dead center in front and while not touching the analog stick, the charge's momentum will move off center and sidestep the enemy halfway through the attack, so the final thrust misses completely. It can fit almost any build well enough that it could carry a player through PvE and some NG+ cycles easily. I have a character with 99 in all damage stats. You underestimate how powerful Charge is and at times your points seem to hinge more on just putting the whole class of weapons down. Also, armor doesn't really matter all too much. That's the biggest benefit to armor. yeah idk how rare of a drop thebalder sword is but the moveset is the exact same as the claymore one handed but maybe just a bit weaker, but to back up what youve already heard, yeah the claymore is just about the perfect mix of speed and power and won't get outclassed by much if you make it elemental. Even if it was, the Prisoner's Chain buff, +3 versions of Favor and Havel make weight even less of an issue than normal as stats are more plentiful than ever. I'd say the weight ratio between the GS and Astora GS represents its power ratio too. The Claymore is a greatsword so it's not the same as the straight sword, Claymore is slower and more powerful. Let's take a look: It's quite clear that Astora Greatsword gets absolutely thrashed by the Lothric Knight GS. I'm dismissing weight because it's not as important as a factor as anyone makes it seem. I'll admit that it does have quick hyperarmor startup and can be surprising, but.. if you're opponent is dull enough to get hit a rolling UGS R1 then a weapon with more damage would be even better. The issue isn't that Astora does one thing REALLY well. Of the three casting classes, I keep a fast spell on each one. thanks for not just yelling at me about weight and weapon arts, I appreciate it. So if you want to save your upgrade mats, just put the raw infusion on the longsword first then switch infusions later when another one will do more damage. Here's just a small list of the things that people tell me when they boast about how strong it is: It scales very well with elemental infusions, Charge is a strong estus punish, albeit very punishable. "Quicker hyperarmor frames allows you to prevent roll catching"? No it sucks, it has a puny reach and it doesn't scale well -> C C - C. The Claymore is a greatsword so it's not the same as the straight sword, Claymore is slower and more powerful. Skill: Stance While in stance, use normal attack to break a foe's guard from below, and strong attack to slash upwards with a forward lunge. How to Get / Where to Find the Astora's Straight Sword You're browsing the GameFAQs Message Boards as a guest. The point of the original post was simply to clear out things about how overrated it is, but most people seemed to take as me just insulting a weapon for no apparent reason. The Lothric Knight Sword is half the weight of the Astoria Greatsword, and having spells to quickly get space while in melee range means I want a heavier weapon. It gives pure dex builds an ultra option that still allows them to carry a backup SS or whatever without having to invest points in VIT. Can you summon people in New Londo Ruins. All rights reserved. I wouldn't upgrade that Astora sword too much (unless you have loads of twinkling to spare) it will start to be outclassed pretty soon and is only really good for the first half of the game, although its great for the skeletons in the Catacombs as it has divine properties. I mean, heavier armor does make a difference, but not a big enough difference. 2 years ago. Force for Miracle man, Black Flame/Fire Whip for my Flame boi, and Faron Flashsword/Great Soul Arrow for my Sparkly guy. And I have one. If you're making a build centered around a UGS, weight really should never be an issue. Dex scaling, light weight, decent infusability, low-ish stat reqs, unique special attack, and good range. But overall? This weapon being so much lighter is going to let you wear heavier armor with less VIT meaning you might be able to spend some points on a spare spell or break an endurance barrier for another swing. "High-quality weapon with a powerful blessing." In that function, it is amazing. Range is awesome, R2 is fast, stats required are puny (16 STR and 12 DEX? It's moveset is really average honestly, same neutral R1s as other UGS, same R2s as other UGS, and a bad weapon art. I also build around slight sustain and using melee weapons for quick saves. I'm level 689 and I still use Astora's sometimes so it's not even a matter of squeezing value out of limited levels. Here I threw in some simple stats just to see how well it really scales with elemental infusions.. Of all those things, the Astoria Great Sword fits my criteria the best. Using up nearly all ring slots to have a similar result with the monstrously heavy Greatsword just results in the issue of with Astora you could have used ring slots for anything else.
